Deakin University Lancaster University Indonesia (DLI) is the first joint overseas campus venture between British and Australian universities. Located in the accessible, vibrant and picturesque city of Bandung, West Java, the campus integrates the best of both countries’ teaching and learning, while also allowing students to enjoy the many benefits of living and working close to home.

DLI will offer five dual degree programmes combining modules from Deakin University, placed among the top 1% of universities in the QS World University Rankings 2024, and Lancaster University, ranked among the top 125 of the QS World University Rankings 2024, delivering the highest quality, educational opportunities to students, while also working to support the education and research priorities of the Indonesian Government.

The first student intake is expected in September 2024. The new campus will initially accommodate up to 1,500 students and 100 staff, with plans to add more students in the coming years.

Global education services company Navitas will lead on the operational delivery of the campus, building on its existing partnerships with both Deakin University and Lancaster University.

We seek to appoint a Rector who will lead teaching teams to adapt, develop and deliver courses and materials for the Indonesia context and are learner-centric, research informed and innovative in curriculum design. You are expected to lead large scale, highly productive research and scholarship activities in a relevant discipline generating high impact outputs. You will be developing and leading major collaborations that enable novel research and creative activities that are impactful and recognised internationally. Acting as the primary contact between the universities and Navitas, you will ensure compliance with relevant Australian, UK and Indonesian regulation in relation to all academic, employment, financial, professional, and statutory bodies, and other matters.

The ideal candidate would be an institution-builder in higher education, fostering an entrepreneurial culture and serve as an academic leader with a distinguished research and teaching portfolio. You would be an ambassador and diplomat for DLI, adept at cultivating and nurturing crucial relationships, navigating challenging conversations while ensuring robust engagement at senior levels with partner universities, businesses and government entities on local, regional and national levels. Possessing exceptional interpersonal skills, you would inspire and motivate others, fostering a supportive environment conducive to growth and excellence.
